16-Year-Old Girl Killed in Clay County Three-Vehicle Crash on US 287

Clay County, Texas – A teenager was killed and another person was injured on Friday in a three-vehicle crash in Clay County, according to the Texas DPS.
The fatal crash happened around noon, May 31, on US Highway 287, about a quarter mile south of Bellevue.
DPS said a 47-year-old man had parked his Volvo, towing a semi-trailer, on the right-hand shoulder of the highway. A Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound when it failed to stay in its lane and rear-ended the parked Volvo.
The impact caused the Malibu to spin clockwise and hit the trailer of a Freightliner also towing a semi-trailer.
The Malibu came to a rest across both southbound lanes.
A passenger in the Malibu, a 16-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
The Malibu driver was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth with incapacitating injuries.
Both occupants of the Malibu were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
