Andrews County, Texas – One person was killed and another was injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Andrews County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on May 12, on SH 176.

DPS said Julio Cesar Torres, 29, of Edinburg was driving a Cadillac Escalade eastbound on the highway when he veered off the roadway, took faulty evasive action, and over-corrected back onto the roadway. That caused the Cadillac to skid into the westbound traffic where it was struck by a GMC Sierra driven by 67-year-old Robert Vanzant, of Andrews.

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Vanzant was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock in serious condition. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality. At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.
